Clogged Air Conditioning Drain
by: Island A/C Team

In most cases a clogged air conditioning drain is not a big deal and can be fix rather easily, often by the home owner or a quick visit by the air conditioning company. But in other instances, a clogged air conditioning drain can lead to water damage to your home.

Air conditioning units produce a large amount of condensation. This condensation needs to be drained out of the unit in order not to overflow and create water damage. A properly maintained air conditioning system should normally not clog. If you have a trusted air conditioning company inspect and maintain your system on a regular basis, problems should be caught before they happen, and excessive wear and tear avoided, so the cause for an overproduction of condensation by your air conditioning system is less likely.

A poorly maintained, or broken air conditioning system can create a clog over time and the overflow of water from condensation can create water damage in your home. If you live in a two-story home an air conditioning leaks is usually discovered after a yellowish stain is discovered on the ceiling downstairs, or mold is found downstairs right underneath where the air handler is located upstairs. By the time the stain is discovered and the clog/leak identified as the cause for it, water damage has already happened and repairing it all will not be inexpensive.

This is why it is highly advised to have your air conditioning checked by a trusted air conditioning contractor on a yearly basis. Periodic maintenance on your air conditioning system will help anticipate breakdowns and help extend the life of your air conditioning system.

For more than 11 years residents of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and the extended area have enjoyed the protection offered by the Island Air Conditioning's Platinum Service Agreement which protects their air conditioning unit and prolongs its life expectancy.
